Are you interested in working with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children and adults? Our Deaf Studies B.S.E program will give you the education and experience you need. In fact, the Educational Interpreting emphasis is the only program in Arizona preparing interpreters at the undergraduate level. You will become fluent in American Sign Language, gain a cultural appreciation of and respect for Deaf culture, use current theories and models of interpreting, and obtain practical experience through school-based internships.
An emphasis area is required for this degree. Each student either pursues the Educational Interpreting emphasis or designs their own emphasis area with the program coordinator. Here are examples of some emphasis areas:
- Educational Interpreting/ASL Interpreting (qualified applicants are eligible for a funding opportunity)
- Counseling
- Family Studies
- Psychology
