The University of Arizona College of Education is proud to announce a groundbreaking achievement: approval from the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) to become the first college in Arizona to offer a Supervisor certification preparation program. This innovative program is tailored for district-level leaders—including directors of counseling services—who may not come from a traditional teaching background. By expanding certification opportunities, the program seeks to equip leaders with the tools they need to excel in their roles and enhance educational outcomes across the state.
In addition to this exciting new program, the College of Education has successfully renewed its approvals for both the Principal and Superintendent preparation programs. This renewal ensures the continuation of two vital pathways for Arizona’s aspiring educational leaders. Notably, the College remains one of only two institutions statewide authorized to offer a Superintendent preparation program, a distinction that underscores its commitment to fostering high-caliber leadership in Arizona’s schools.
This milestone would not have been possible without the outstanding efforts of Dr. Meg Cota, Associate Professor of Practice in Educational Policy Studies and Practice, and Sara Knepper, Director of Academic Advising. Their tireless work and visionary leadership were instrumental in gaining approval for the Supervisor program and securing the renewals of the Principal and Superintendent programs.
“This achievement represents our dedication to meeting the evolving needs of educational leadership in Arizona,” said Dr. Cota. “We are thrilled to expand opportunities for leaders who bring diverse perspectives and expertise to our schools.”
The College of Education continues to lead the way in shaping the future of educational leadership, setting a new standard for excellence in Arizona. These accomplishments reflect its unwavering mission to empower educators and administrators to make a lasting impact in their communities.
