Project OIC

Enhancing Professional Preparation through Online Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Through a grant from the Office of Special Education Programs/U.S. Department of Education, the University of Arizona (UA) supports an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Special Education-Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing and Applied Behavior Analysis programs. The goals of the project are to increase (a) the number of fully credentialed teachers of DHH students (TODHHs) who can address challenging behavior issues and provide intensive individualized instruction to students, (b) the number of fully credentialed behavior analysts who can support students who have challenging behavior issues due to severe communication difficulties, and (c) the collaborative efforts between TODHHs, behavior analysts, general education personnel, and families to create optimal learning environments at home and educational settings, including schools and distance learning environments. The project focuses on preparing professionals to work with students who have high-intensity needs, including students with severe sensory disabilities, communication needs, and autism. We anticipate at least 25 Scholars will complete their programs through Project OIC funding.

While we are no longer recruiting scholars for this project, please access and share the Scholar capstone projects provided on this page. The goal of the capstone projects is to support collaboration between practitioners, particularly Teachers of the Deaf and Behavior Specialists.
