Dr. Patricia Stowers is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies at the University of Arizona. She earned a B.A. in History & Political Science (1986), a M.Ed. in Secondary Education (1987), and an Ed.D. in Teaching & Teacher Education (2003) from the University of Arizona.
Dr. Stowers began her professional career as a social studies teacher at Flowing Wells High School in Tucson, Arizona. She was named the 1997 Arizona Teacher of the Year, and also received the UA/Circle K High School Faculty Teacher of the Year Award and a University of Arizona Alumni Association Distinguished Citizen Award.
Dr. Stowers’ expertise is in pre-service teacher preparation of middle and high school educators. She has taught university courses and professional development workshops that focus on effective classroom management, planning, and instruction. She has more than twenty-five years of experience coordinating university-school partnerships in teacher preparation. She assisted in the development of Teach Arizona, a graduate degree teacher certification program, which she has directed since its inception in 2000. She received an Outstanding Service Award from the College of Education for her work in pre-service teacher preparation.
