Maggie Shafer has more than 25 years of progressive executive leadership in Education, serving in a variety of roles that is anchored by her more 15 years as a classroom teacher. She has taught children in urban schools just outside of Washington, DC, in rural Virginia, and in the suburbs of Tucson, Arizona. She began her career outside of the classroom in professional development, in the area of K-5 mathematics, served as principal of Robins Elementary School in the Tucson Unified School District, and as chief academic officer for that school district as well. She was the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary and K-8 Schools in Tucson Unified School District and was responsible for the academic achievement for over 20,000 students attending more than 65 elementary and K-8 schools. Maggie has served as moderator and facilitator for many executive work groups in the field of education. Ms. Shafer currently leads the Office of Field Experiences in the College of Education at the University of Arizona, collaborating with local education agencies, as she mentors and instructs the next generation of educators. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Girls Scouts of Southern Arizona and highly values the work of building individuals of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
