Kathy Carter, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Teaching, Language, and Sociocultural Studies at the University of Arizona. Her scholarly inquiry in the areas of teaching, learning, and narrative methods spans over a 25-year period, and she is widely published and cited in these areas. She has been a visiting scholar and invited speaker in Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, England, and Canada. In addition, she has served as Division K (Teaching and Teacher Education) Vice-President of the American Educational Research Association, a research-based organization with a membership of over 25,000 scholars in over 85 countries. Her AERA Vice- Presidential address, “The Place of Story in Teaching and Teacher Education” is often credited with providing impetus to challenge the longstanding dominant research paradigm that privileged the voices of academics and marginalized the voices of teachers. Over her career, Kathy has served as Associate Editor of Teaching and Teacher Education and has served on the editorial boards of the the Elementary School Journal and the Journal of Teacher Education. Kathy has won multiple awards at the University of Arizona for her excellence in teaching. Her present work, both in research and teaching, focuses on preparing teachers to teach toward goals of equity and social justice.
