Dr. E. Sybil Durand is an associate professor of young adult literature in the Department of Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies in the College of Education. Her scholarship draws on feminist anti-colonial theories, culturally sustaining pedagogies, as well as content analysis, ethnographic, and participatory action research methodologies to examine how teachers and students engage representations of youth of color in literature written for young adults by authors of color situated in the U.S. and globally. Dr. Durand teaches courses in young adult literature and social justice at the University of Arizona. She earned her PhD in curriculum and instruction from Louisiana State University and her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Purdue University.
