Dr. Melanie Raylene McKay-Cody was featured in Vox to talk about the history of "hand talk"; there are just a handful of fluent Plains Indian Sign Language (PISL) signers left in the US.
Dr. McKay-Cody is one of the few who fluent PISL signers and she has dedicated her time to studying the language. In the Vox video, she shows PISL in real-time and how the language has held on to centuries of Indigenous history.
