At the University of Arizona College of Education, we believe in supporting our future educators every step of the way. That’s why we’re so proud of the success of our Word Cats/Math Cats program, which provides critical financial assistance to Elementary and Early Childhood Education student teachers.
In 2024 alone, this program awarded over $300,000 in Federal Work Study funds to 70 student teachers! These funds help our students focus on gaining valuable classroom experience, teaching reading and math, without the burden of juggling additional jobs. On average, each student received $4,000–$5,000, directly easing their financial stress.
This program is a true team effort! We want to recognize the incredible contributions of Elizabeth Moraga, Dawn Brown, Julie Abrams, and Liz Boyce from the Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Studies Department, as well as Melva Gutierrez from OFSA and many others who make this happen. Your dedication ensures our Wildcat educators are set up for success!
Thank you to everyone who supports this impactful program—together, we’re empowering the next generation of teachers and making a lasting difference in our community.
