The Department of Teaching and Teacher Education /Physical Education helps prepare undergraduate students for careers as elementary and secondary teachers and offers master's and doctoral programs leading to positions in school leadership, research and development and teacher education. The department also includes an undergraduate program in physical education, which prepares physical education teachers.

Graduate students are eligible for assistantships and fellowships that provide financial aid and opportunities to work with faculty members on research and to participate in the preservice preparation of teachers.
