Join us for the 20th Annual LRC Graduate Colloquy
Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008
2:30 -9:00 p.m.
College of Education
(7 p.m. in the College of Education Kiva Auditorium)
The Graduate Student Colloquy was begun many years ago when Dr. Judy Mitchell, the Reading department chair, organized a meeting of graduate students and faculty to lay the groundwork for the new Department of Language, Reading & Culture in the College of Education.
The colloquy began as a meeting of graduate students and faculty in small focus groups speaking to issues and goals for the department. Over the years, the colloquy has become a conference organized and led by and for graduate students in the College of Education, particularly those in LRC. The colloquy is generally organized around a theme embracing issues in language, reading and culture. Graduate students and local educators are invited to present their work in a safe and supportive atmosphere. In this collegial setting, faculty and students get to know each other, building a strong community across the university and growing more confident in the quality of the work being done in the university. Historically, graduate students from numerous departments in the university (e.g., TTE, SER, SLAT, English, AIS, Anthropology) have presented in 20 to 25 break-out sessions. Dinner and a keynote address by a nationally known scholar end the day.
