Facts & Figures

If you’re looking for statistics on the College of Education, this is the place for you.

History: The University of Arizona College of Education — Arizona’s first — was founded in 1922 with an enrollment of 145 students.

Student Body: Today, we have about 2,700 students at the College of Education. The breakdown? There are 900 pre-education majors (freshmen and sophomores not yet admitted to College of Education programs), 900 undergraduates (juniors and seniors in education programs and postbaccalaureates seeking certification), and 900 graduate students. (The College of Education is an upper-division college, providing undergraduates with course work at the junior and senior level only. Undergraduates normally apply for admission to the College at the end of their sophomore year, after two years at a two- or four-year institution as pre-education majors. If enrolled at The University of Arizona, pre-education majors are administratively housed in the College of Education.)

Faculty: We have about 65 full-time faculty members and 30 clinical and adjunct faculty members.

Degrees: In the 2004/2005 school year, we awarded 435 bachelor’s degrees, 200 master’s degrees, 20 educational specialist degrees, and 37 doctoral degrees.

Demographics: Our pre-education and undergraduate students are 80 percent women, while 75 percent of our graduate students are women. Minorities make up 31 percent of our pre-education and undergraduate students, while graduate students make up 27 percent.

Scholarships: Each year, we award about 190 undergraduate scholarships and 65 graduate scholarships. The total monetary amount of these awards is approximately $150,000, with the average award at $588.
