Degrees & Programs

Master of Arts in Language, Reading & Culture, M.A.

The master's program provides students with a foundational understanding of the concepts, methods and theories related to language, reading and culture. Emphasis is placed on developing abilities and competencies which lead to improvements in teaching/learning processes within the classroom. The master's program is also the basis for higher level degrees.

This program focuses on language and literacy theory, research and practice. It is designed for individuals who want a graduate program to develop competencies in language, reading, writing, early literacy, children's literature, adult and family literacy, multicultural education and applied linguistics. A specially designed sequence of required courses is available to acquire a K-12 Reading Endorsement for the State of Arizona, preparing teachers to be reading specialists or Chapter I teachers.
